Finance Assistant / Credit Controller

We are looking for a finance assistant / credit controller to support the finance team and take a lead on credit control.

What is the role?

This is an interesting and diverse commercial role within a respected consulting engineering practice in the construction industry. The finance assistant / credit controller will support the continued development and implementation of AKT II’s overriding financial control and reporting framework. They will assist in mitigating the credit control risk and work effectively with senior management to ensure timely payment processing from external clients.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Supporting the finance manager in the posting of general sales and purchase ledger invoicing
  • Accurate and concise recording of information relating to the sales ledger
  • Production of monthly invoicing to clients
  • Ensure all instructions are received and invoices are finalised according to month end timetable
  • Weekly and monthly reconciliations of aged debts and credit control issues
  • Liaise with management and group directors regarding client debt profile progress and queries
  • Processing of project credit notes where instructed by the group director
  • Liaise with legal department regarding delinquent accounts including preparation of accurate notes to allow progression of formal claims
  • Carrying out bank reconciliation, inclusive of daily identification and allocation of cheque and BACS receipts received into multiple bank accounts
  • Assistance in maintenance of the WIP report
  • Project reconciliations to assist senior staff monitor invoice payments
  • Continual process improvement and controls mindset required to ensure that all invoices are processed in a standard way and that integrity of the financials is maintained
  • Providing comprehensive administrative support to the finance team

We'd like to hear from you if you have

  • At least two years’ relevant experience in a finance role
  • Early stages of an accounting qualification beneficial
  • AAT / CICM qualifications advantageous
  • General accounting knowledge
  • Credit control experience
  • Previous experience using SAGE advantageous
  • Interpersonal situations, competing demands and tight timescales
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Inquisitive nature and strong organisational skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
