10 Carlton Hill

This large Victorian semi-detached property was purchased by Hollywood star Ewan McGregor, who commissioned architects Adjaye & Russell with AKT II to undertake a major refurbishment of the building.

The existing building consisted of basement, ground and two upper floors, the proposed works included the introduction of a new mezzanine floor in the roof void by reconfiguring the roof truss members, the opening up of the existing lower floors by the removal / repositioning of internal load-bearing walls plus the addition at the rear of the property of a new glass-clad conservatory which has an elegant lightweight exposed structural steel support framework. The brief dictated by the client was demanding, who was involved throughout the design process, and required all members of the team to work closely together to ensure a full understanding of his requirements were obtained and subsequently achieved in the final project.
