For this year’s International Women in Engineering Day, AKT II invited students from a London school to come and learn all about engineering, the work we do and participate in some engineering-based activities.
Schoolgirls from a local school came in for a morning of discussions and activities, led by our female engineers. Our mentors provided a brief introduction to structural engineering and the work we do here at AKT II as well as the paths in academia they took to become engineers – what they studied at GCSE, A level and then at university, hoping to inspire the students to take up a future career in engineering.
The students then participated in a drawing exercise, to draw a 2-point perspective of a tower, then building their towers as drawn in groups. Constructed out of paper and straws, our engineers guided them to create some stunning structures.
Thank you to those who attended our event today! And a huge thank you to our staff who organised and led this discussion and the activities for this important day.
23rd June marks International Women in Engineering Day, ‘a day that celebrates the outstanding achievements of women engineers’. AKT II is proud to support International Women in Engineering Day 2019.
