We were over the moon to have received an award from The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) Structural Awards for our project Vessel!
Working with architects Heatherwick Studio for our client Related, we worked on the structural design for the centerpiece of the huge Hudson Yards development in NYC.
Vessel won the Award for Structural Artistry (non-building structures) at the Structural Awards! The AKT II team went on stage with Thornton Tomasetti, Engineers of Record on the project, to collect the award.
‘AKT II’s innovative design approach of using shipbuilding technology and advanced vibration dampening systems has been rewarded with a fantastic prize from the IStructE! The whole team is thrilled and shares the joy with Heatherwick Studio. A special thanks to Thorton Tomassetti, the Engineers of Record, and Cimolai who helped make it happen!’ – Edoardo Tibuzzi, Director.
‘An amazing night that concluded with a well-deserved IStructE Award for Structural Artistry (non-building structures), to coronate this amazing monolithic 50m diameter giant sculpture designed by Heatherwick Studio’. – Alessandro Margnelli, Director.
Congratulations to the wider project team and to all the AKT II team that worked on this unique and special project!
