Embodying sound waves within a building

Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Concert Hall

We are pleased to reveal the competition-winning design of Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Concert Hall in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects and Atelier Ten.

Set to house the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra, this unique design is inspired by sound waves, with their shape and movement captured within the smooth, flowing form of the building. This extends into the surrounding landscape set within this historic and cultural district of the city.

Structurally, the two auditoria (the 1,600-seat concert hall and 400-seat chamber hall) are self-contained forms, suspended from the canopy by lightweight steelwork, allowing the foyer, circulation and other amenities around them to remain as uninterrupted open spaces.
