We worked with the Office of Public Works’ in-house architect to complete a major refurbishment and upgrade of the existing facilities.
Major refurbishment of a Victoria art gallery in Dublin
The major structural works occurred in the main stairwell and involved the introduction of a new glass-clad lift, replacement of the roof, and modifications to the balustrades of the existing Victorian stairs. The innovative solution proposed for the lift support steelwork was to hang the frame from the top of the void.
Thus, with the main vertical elements acting in tension, slender members could be adopted, giving a light, minimalistic structure. Careful attention was given to details throughout the project to achieve high quality and elegant solutions which enhance and complement the existing building.
